Russian transport group Major Express, a FedEx partner, has signed a contract for an automatedparcel sorting system from Vanderlande Industries to expand its sorting capacity.
As a Global Service Partner (GSP) of FedEx in Russia with an exclusive two-year contract, theprivate express parcel operator decided to automate its sorting processes adding to its own organicgrowth.
Major Express saw the Vanderlande Industries sorting solution in action at the FedEx site inCologne one-and-a-half years ago. “The visit made a strong impression on the board of MajorExpress. To support the continued growth of the business, they found a new location for theiroperation,” Vanderlande explained.
The solution consists of a CROSSORTER 700 combined with 60 chutes for parcels and 120 chutes fordocuments. The system is designed to handle 9,000 parcels per hour in total and will go intooperation in July 2013.

Created in 1998, Major serves 4,900 cities and regions across Russia and offers a wide range ofinternational express delivery services to 220 countries through FedEx Express.
The privately-owned company operates 43 express centres, 2 operational terminals with an overallarea of 11,000 sqm along with two warehousing complexes in the Moscow metropolitan area comprising35,000 sqm. It has a fleet of 500 commercial vehicles effecting 600 tours every month with anaverage delivery time of 1.7 days and employs 1,500 staff.
