DHL Express USA has announced an upcoming price increase in its international rates and expandedits GoGreen environmental products with two new carbon reporting services to offer importers and
exporters more transparency of their carbon emissions.Effective January 2, 2013, the average price increase will amount to 5.9% for US accountholders. However, this general international rate increase will be partially offset by a two-pointreduction in the Fuel Surcharge index, DHL explained.
DHL Express stressed that it adjusts its prices every year considering inflation and risingcosts in the more than 220 countries and territories that it serves.
Meanwhile, DHL Express USA has launched two new GoGreen services, ‘Carbon Estimate’ and ‘CarbonFootprint’, to meet growing demands from many businesses for more eco-friendly operations.
DHL GoGreen Carbon Estimate provides customers with a single, high-level estimate of their CO2footprint for their most recent three month time period based on global average carbon emissionfactors. This allows customers to baseline their carbon footprint for informational and forecastingpurposes.
DHL GoGreen Carbon Footprint offers transparency of customers’ actual CO2 footprint emissions attrade lane, product, mode of transport, account, and shipment level for a calendar year to supportthem with baseline carbon reduction target setting decisions. The CO2 calculation methodology andprocesses for reports are verified by an independent body, the Swiss based Société Générale deSurveillance (SGS).
“DHL empowers its customers to make environmentally responsible transportation decisions,” IanClough, CEO of DHL Express USA, said. “The DHL GoGreen portfolio of services provides customerswith an accurate, transparent view of their carbon footprint, and enables them to offset their CO2emissions in projects that support their own sustainability mandates.”
The new GoGreen reporting services complement the current DHL GoGreen Carbon Neutral service,which enables customers to offset CO2 emissions for their DHL shipments. DHL Express offers itsthree DHL GoGreen services in more than 50 countries worldwide, including many markets in Europe,Asia Pacific, Africa and the Americas.
In 2011, Deutsche Post DHL shipped an estimated 1.9 billion GoGreen Carbon Neutral shipmentsworldwide, while offsetting 134,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Since its launch in 2006, more than270,000 tons of CO2 emissions have been offset by GoGreen carbon neutral shipping and logisticsservices.
