DPD Switzerland delivers faster after overnight transport ban dropped

DPD

DPD has reduced its delivery times in Switzerland since a ban on overnight transportation wasremoved in October this year under new postal regulations designed to make the Swiss market more

competitive.

As a result of the new directive, private parcel operators can now operate during the night onlong-distance routes enabling earlier delivery in the morning. DPD explained that private postalservice providers have been fighting for fair competition and a level playing field on Swiss postalmarket for many years. “KEP&Mail, the federation of private parcel services in the country, hastaken the lead in the fight for fair pricing systems and equal rules for all with regard totransport operations at night,” the company said.

In concrete terms, the removal of the ban on overnight transportation is expected to makedeliveries to depots more flexible for DPD and enable it to offer the same services as the Swissstate postal operator.

Previous postal regulations in Switzerland prohibited private parcel operators from using trucksfor delivery services between 10 pm in the evening and 5 am in the morning. With the overnightdelivery ban now lifted, night-time hours can be used to cover long distances.

“Thanks to overnight transport, DPD is now finally in a position to deliver parcels in thecourse of the morning the very next day,” Marc Hasler, CEO DPD Switzerland, said.

The long-distance transport network in Switzerland is now being adjusted to the new regulationwith DPD considerably improving delivery times, especially in the southern area of Romandy, Valaisand Tessin regions.

Through the improved delivery times, the company is expanding its express service acrossSwitzerland suitable for parcels which need to arrive at a definite, guaranteed time. The companyplans to offer time-specific express delivery throughout the whole of Switzerland in future.
