FedEx Express has expanded operations in China with a new branch in the southern city of Shenzhento meet growing customer demand.
The company last week officially opened its fifth operations station for internationalservices in Shenzhen. Occupying an area of 1,800 sqm in Nanshan District, the new station handlesthe pickup and delivery of international express shipments for customers in Nanshan District,Xixiang as well as parts of Futian District.
With offices and operations areas, the new station has 58 employees and 34 vehicles, and isequipped with an advanced inbound and outbound shipment sorting system, which can sort up to 2,300shipments per hour.
“Shenzhen is an important city for FedEx’s development in China. Nanshan District is thecentre for Shenzhen’s high-tech industries, where there is growing demand for efficient andreliable delivery services,” said Wilson Chung, vice president, International Express, FedExExpress China. “The new station will improve our Shenzhen network and strengthen our operationalcapabilities and flexibility. It will support FedEx business growth in Shenzhen and south China aswell as increasing our customers’ competitive advantage in the global marketplace.”
In Shenzhen, FedEx currently has five international express operations stations, oneinternational express gateway at Bao’an Airport, four domestic service operations stations and onedomestic service distribution centre. In late 2010, the company introduced its second B777F inChina to connect Shenzhen and Memphis with direct flights.
As one of China’s special economic zones, Shenzhen’s foreign trade has grown rapidly,including growth of 28 per cent in 2010 and a further 19 per cent last year. The city has rankedNo.1 among mainland Chinese cities for total exports for 19 consecutive years.
