Lithuania Post’s October parcel volumes soar thanks to e-commerce

LP Express

Lithuania Post delivered as many express and parcel shipments in the first two weeks of Octoberas in the whole of September as e-commerce drives volume growth in the country.

The increase came after Lithuania Post strengthened its position in the courier and parcelsbusiness in September by bundling activities under the new brand LP Express run by its subsidiaryBaltic Post that the state postal operator took over this summer.

The increased parcel volumes are largely due to the booming e-commerce, Baltic Post ManagingDirector Domas Sabaitis explained. “E-trade is spreading rapidly in Lithuania. More and more onlineshops are starting activities. At present, we cooperate with more than 200 online shops, and LPEXPRESS couriers deliver items both domestically and to other countries. Since the beginning of ouractivities, the number of items has increased by 2-3 times every month.”

The number of parcels shipped has been boosted in particular by the self-service parcelterminals LP EXPRESS 24 with the majority of the online orders delivered to these machines ascustomers profit from the round-the-clock operations. Apart from Lithuania, they can send parcelsto 22 European countries via the terminals.

Meanwhile, Lithuania Post has completed the acquisition of the retail network of insolvent bankSnoras which is undergoing liquidation procedures. The value of the transaction amounts to LTL 3.1million (about €0.9 million).

Lithuania Post has acquired the network of 214 Snoras mini-bank kiosks to provide financialservices that are currently offered at post offices. These include acceptance of charges and fees, sending and paying out money orders, cash withdrawal, issuing consumer credits etc.

The first mini-banks are planned to open by the end of this year with 100 new employees to behired for providing financial services. The state postal operator runs the widest network of accesspoints in the country.
