DHL Express airlifted vitally-needed emergency supplies into the most hurricane-stricken areasof New York by helicopter on Saturday (November 3) as relief efforts continue in areas hit by
Hurricane Sandy last week.The company said that a DHL Express helicopter took off on the first of many relief missionsbringing critical supplies to the most hurricane-stricken areas of Staten Island and BaldwinHarbor, New York, as part of a coordinated, local community effort involving DHL Express, East EndHelicopter and various community partners. The flights were due to continue today (November 5).
East End Helicopter, an Aviation partner of DHL Express, has been purchasing and storing bottledwater, baby diapers, warm clothing, shoes and other supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims at itshangar in Long Island, NY. DHL Express provided the aviation fuel which resulted in thedelivery of nearly 12,000 lbs of critical supplies to those in the most devastated areas of NewYork.
“Hurricane Sandy created mayhem and left many folks without critical items like water and warmclothing.” said Ian Clough, CEO of DHL Express U.S. “By partnering with the local community andleveraging our logistics capabilities, we can get help to where it’s needed most and hasten therecovery efforts.”
DHL Express is also taking steps to assist its own employees in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Thecompany set up a national employee donation drive to collect much-needed goods including warmclothing, non-perishable food, water and personal hygiene items for delivery to its employees inimpacted areas throughout New York and New Jersey.
Both FedEx and UPS are also playing vital roles in getting relief supplies to affected areas.FedEx said on Friday that it has been working closely with the Red Cross, Heart to Heart, DirectRelief International and the Salvation Army to get relief supplies to those in need and has so fardonated $1.45 million in cash and in-kind transportation support. UPS has donated $1.5 million andis also assisting with relief supplies.
