GLS Belgium Distribution

GLS Belgium Distribution has seen volumes increase since launching faster freight connections tothree French cities and plans to further improve transit times on cross-border destinations.

In addition to the Ile de France metropolitan area around Paris, GLS will now be able to servethe Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, including Lille, as well as some border areas with a 24-hour freightconnection. In addition, it has launched a 48-hour transport option between Belgium and themetropolitan region of Lyon. The shipping volumes from GLS Belgium to these economic regions haveconsiderably increased since the transit time reduction, the company said.

GLS Belgium said its cargo shipments to the Netherlands already reach their destination within24 hours. In the next step, GLS Belgium aims to reduce freight delivery times to border regions inGermany by one day.

A subsidiary of the GLS Group, GLS Belgium Distribution offers solutions for freight shipmentsnationwide and across Europe, including oversized shipments and pallets up to 600 kg. It claims tooffer very short transit times and usually delivers in under 24 hours within Belgium.

Eberhard Fritze, Managing Director Europe West at GLS, said: “Freight and parcel shipments maybe different in size but not in the shippers’ need for the shortest delivery times possible.” As aresult, he said freight transport was effected according to the concepts already commonly used forGLS parcel shipments.

“We do not think in borders but in economic areas,” Fritze explained. To keep transit times asshort as possible, GLS Belgium Distribution said it preferred to use direct connections for freightshipments between important trade centres that are close to the border.
