UPS continues supporting Toys for Tots Literacy Programme to further reading

UPS is supporting the Toys for Tots Literacy Programme again this year with a holiday campaign tohelp purchase books for less fortunate children in local communities in the US.



The Toys for Tots Literacy Programme is a year-round initiative of the Marine Toys for TotsFoundation. The UPS Store has raised more than $2 million for the Toys for Tots Literacy Programmesince its start in 2008.

As part of the programme, participating UPS Store locations across the USA will start sellingdonation cards from Nov. 1, through Dec.31. In addition to donating in-store, customers can go toThe UPS Store Facebook page to make a donation directly to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation andlearn more about the Toys for Tots Literacy Programme. The UPS Store locations will continueadditional fundraising activities throughout the year, including a coin box programme for customersto donate their spare change.

Tim Davis, president of The UPS Store, explained: “Education is one of the keys to helpingchildren become successful in life. During the holidays, The UPS Store hopes to make a positiveimpact by helping children break the cycle of poverty through literacy and education.”

According to a 2011 study by the Brookings Institution, 22 per cent of the children in theUSA are living in poverty. “Our nation’s less fortunate children deserve the resources to learn andexperience the joy of reading,” Lt. Gen. Pete Osman, USMC (Ret), President and CEO of the MarineToys for Tots Foundation, said. “We are thrilled to be entering the fifth year of the Toys for TotsLiteracy Programme, providing children the gift of a book, which can leave a lasting impact evenafter the holidays are over.

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation authorised by the USMarine Corps to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual US Marine CorpsReserve Toys for Tots Programme. Now in its 65th year, Toys for Tots provides joy and a message ofhope to less fortunate children through the gift of a new toy or book during the Christmas holidayseason.
