DHL has won a European supply chain contract with Huawei Technologies, the fast-growingChinese-based ICT group.
Under the contract, whose value and length have not been disclosed, DHL is supplying productionmaterials to the company’s two European Supply Centre locations in Hungary and is also one ofseveral logistics groups responsible for distribution in Europe.
Raw materials required for the production of wireless, mobile transmission andtelecommunications devices are firstly transported to DHL Supply Chain’s warehouse at Biatorbágy,west of Budapest. The company has created 80 new jobs there and enlarged its warehouse capacity by10,000 sqm to create 90,000 sqm of space in total.
From there, DHL supplies Huawei’s European Supply Centers in Pécs (south-west Hungary) andKomárom (north-west Hungary) with the required raw materials.
Along with other logistics service providers, DHL’s business units Supply Chain, Freight,Express and Global Forwarding, are then responsible for handling the finished products. Servicesprovided by DHL include packaging, customs services, road transportation and ocean freightforwarding of the products, which are worth tens of millions of dollars.

Ferenc Ujszászi, Business Development Director at DHL Supply Chain Hungary, added: “In our twocentral warehouse facilities goods are received and stored in accordance with the requiredspecialized needs after thorough quality and quantity checks. Goods can reach the production linein as little as four hours after an order has been placed. The production lines, which run 24 hoursa day, are served continuously from our central warehouses.”
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider,set up operations in Europe in 2000 and now has some 7,300 staff based across the continent. In2011, Huawei Europe’s sales revenues grew by 26% to more than $3.75 billion.
The company’s clients include major European telecommunications companies, including BritishTelecom (BT), Deutsche Telekom (DT), Vodafone, France Telecom/Orange (FT), Telefónica O2, TelecomItalia, Swisscom, Telenor, TeliaSonera and KPN.
