USPS to raise prices and launch new services next year

USPS has announced price increases for First-Class Mail with a new stamp for internationaldestinations and several new shipping services to come into effect in January next year.

As part of the increase, the price for First-Class Mail letters within the USA will rise by 1cent to $0.46. Postcards will also become 1 cent more expensive at $0.33.

For international destinations, USPS is introducing a new First-Class Mail Global Forever Stampwhich allows customers to send mail to anywhere in the world for one set price of $1.10. This stampis among the new mailing and and shipping services submitted to the Postal Regulatory Commission(PRC). PRC will review the prices before they become effective on 27 January 2013.

Also from January next year, USPS will launch new products including free tracking for allcompetitive packages, including retail Priority Mail and Parcel Post (recently renamed StandardPost).

In addition, customers shipping Critical Mail letters and flats will be offered a new option ofreceiving a signature upon delivery as part of the service offering.

USPS also adjusted the rates for Priority Mail Flat Rate products on the domestic level.
