Healthcare logistics specialist Marken gets shipping licence extension in China

Marken, one of the leading specialists in healthcare logistics, is expanding its activitiesaround the world with an extended licence to ship biological samples and drug products within China

and add more experts.

The US-based firm, which provides clinical supply chain solutions for the pharmaceutical andlife sciences industries, has been granted a 12-year licence in China continuing its expansion inthe country to meet the anticipated demand for increased clinical trials logistics services.

To enhance its Chinese operations, Marken has also hired new employees who are trained and fullycertified on IATA regulations and anti-corruption policies. It has also conducted a comprehensivecompliance audit of all of its in-country agents.

In addition, the company has started the second phase of its depot rollout with the constructionof its pharmaceutical depot at its new branch location near Beijing International airport.

Asia is the fastest growing region for new clinical trials, Marken explained. Analysts predictthat China clinical trials will grow at 20% over the next several years which will allow it torival Japan and Korea as key hubs for pharmaceutical R&D. Marken continues significantinvestments in these countries to further enhance its already solid base in Singapore, India, SouthKorea, Japan and Australia.

Marken CEO Wes Wheeler said: “We recognise the value of the clinical trial market in Asia andwhat economic impact the region has for many of our pharmaceutical clients. China, Korea and Japanare now clearly in focus for Marken and we will continue to analyse and anticipate newopportunities, both within China as well as other parts of Asia and the world as a whole.”

In August this year, Marken opened four expanded branches in Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Edinburghand Beijing. This follows new facilities in the UK, South Korea, India and Argentina in recentmonths and gives the company some 30 offices and depots worldwide.
