UPS launches daily Zhengzhou-Incheon flights

UPS has launched daily flights between Zhengzhou in central China and Incheon, South Korea, tooffer local exporters improved international connections to the US, Europe and other parts of

Asia.

The new five days a week B767F flight will help customers in the Zhengzhou area cut shippingtimes by at least one day, the company said. Zhengzhou’s businesses will benefit from Incheon’scorresponding flight connections to key export markets in the US and Europe while direct flightsfrom Incheon to UPS’s intra-Asia hub in Shenzhen will open new opportunities for exports withinAsia.

Zhengzhou, with more than eight million inhabitants, is the capital and largest city in China’sHenan Province, and lies more than 700km south-west of Beijing and about 1,000 km north-west ofShanghai. The city has gained fame as an electronics manufacturing centre, including as the home ofa Foxconn plant that manufactures iPhones for Apple, while other fast-growing industries includethe automotive, machinery and aluminium manufacturing sectors. In 2011, Zhengzhou was ranked numberone in foreign trade growth in all of China and has been attracting considerable foreign directinvestment, UPS noted.

“With many manufacturing companies moving their facilities to inland China, there is anincreasing need for logistics and transportation services in this fast-growing region,” saidRichard Loi, President of UPS China. “The UPS Zhengzhou gateway will speed access to key marketsglobally and it underscores UPS’s commitment to strengthening our network in China and addressingour customers’ needs.”

UPS said the launch of its new flight is fully supported by the local government. Henan GovernorGuo Gengmao said: “Henan province is strategically located in the heart of Central Northern Chinaand has seen rapid economic development over the years. The establishment of UPS’ flight into andout of Zhengzhou will further facilitate the economic development of the province within China andbeyond.  With UPS’s contribution toward an enhanced logistics network, I believe Zhengzhouwill grow into a major trade hub for central northern China in the near future.”

UPS stressed that the launch of the new flight reflects its continuous commitment tofacilitating trade between China and the world.
