DPD Germany to raise price by 6% next year due to rising costs

DPD Germany raises prices

DPD Germany has announced price increases for business customers of 6% on average to come intoeffect early next year due to significant operating cost increases and to reverse “years” of

falling prices.

Operating costs have increased on the part of providers and suppliers as well as through risingwages and non-wage labour costs, the parcels operator explained.

“By consequently implementing the price increase, DPD is determined to counter the prevailingprice decline across the industry that has been going on for years,” DPD CEO Arnold Schrovenexplained. “It’s high time to reverse this trend so that high-performance delivery will beappreciated again as it deserves to be.”

Stagnating prices come along with rising costs industry-wide, as it is the case in the freightsector, with higher operating costs of the carriers and insufficient loading capacity. A shortageof professional workers and drivers in many parts of the industry remains a key challengecontributing to rising labour costs, DPD said.

“At the same time, we continue investing in quality and performance. We have to reflect thisoverall development in our prices as well,” Schroven added.

This year DPD has invested a double-digit million sum in the performance of its transportnetwork across Germany. The Nuremberg depot that opened in May was alone worth €20 million.

DPD Germany operates 75 depots and 4,000 DPD parcel shops all over the country with 7,500employees and 7,000 vehicles serving customers on a daily basis.
