For the second consecutive year, UPS has received the highest score in the Carbon DisclosureProject’s “Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index” of S&P companies.
With a score of 99 out of 100, UPS is the only company from the Standard & Poor’s 500(S&P) Industrials sector to achieve this rating. Also, UPS is one of only two companies fromthe U.S. and one of four worldwide to be awarded the top score.
In the index issued by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the companies’ performance is ratedon the basis of their transparency in terms of climate change related activities. With the averageperformance score of the S&P 500 companies increasing by 44% and assurance of emissions datanearly doubling, results from the 2012 Carbon Disclosure Project show that firms are makingsignificant strides in the fields of transparency and emission reduction, narrowing the gap betweenGlobal 500 companies.
“Companies that make the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index have demonstrated good internal datamanagement practices for understanding greenhouse gas emissions,” said Paul Simpson, chiefexecutive officer of the Carbon Disclosure Project.
“They have shown a strong awareness of the business issues related to climate change includingclimate-related risks and opportunities. Those organisations that give clear consideration tomeasuring and reporting on climate change issues will be best placed to capitalise on theopportunities from managing them.”

UPS said it continues to stand out in sustainability reporting and best practices. The CDPhonour follows the release of its 2011 Corporate Sustainability Report, which summarises UPS’sprogressive sustainability efforts and which received the A+ designation after meeting GRI’sreporting standards as well as Deloitte & Touche LLP’s assurance review criteria.
The CDP leadership index is compiled by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and provides an evaluation toolsfor institutional investors and other stakeholders. The 2012 edition includes 53 companies from theS&P 500 and is based on an analysis of responses to a CDP questionnaire focusing on greenhousegas emissions, emissions reduction targets and risks and opportunities associated with climatechange.
