PostNord acquires Norwegian logistics company Harlem Transport

PostNord is expanding its presence in Norway with the acquisition of the Norwegian logisticscompany Harlem Transport AS strengthening its existing operations in the country’s growing

logistics market.

The Swedish-Danish postal merger has bought 100% of the shares in Harlem Transport which itclaims is a ‘renowned transport and logistics company in Norway’. It focuses on four main areasincluding consumer goods, industry, shipping, and recycling and waste. With a strong position as alogistics supplier to the consumer goods sector, Harlem Transport counts several major companies inthe industry to its customers. In 2011, it generated sales of NOK 292 million (€39.06 million)employing 211 staff.

PostNord’s logistics operations in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland generate annual sales ofapproximately SEK 13 billion (€1.51 billion), with the focus on parcel, pallet, express andthird-party logistics. The company operates its logistics operations through its subsidiaryTollpost Globe AS which it says is one of Norway’s three largest logistics companies with salesamounting to NOK 2.7 billion (€361.22 million) in 2011. With 900 employees and 700 drivers, ithandles around 60,000 parcels every day.

“We continue to implement our strategy by creating end-to-end solutions and cross-borderlogistics capacity in the Nordic region. The acquisition of Harlem Transport is an importantaddition to our successful logistics operations in Norway,” Lars Idermark, President and CEO ofPostNord, said. The acquisition is subject to approval by the Norwegian competitionauthorities.

Henrik Höjsgaard, Head of Business Area Logistics at PostNord, added: “Harlem Transport is awell-managed and skillful company. The acquisition further strengthens our position in the growingNorwegian logistics market, particularly in the fast moving consumer goods area.”

Formed through the merger of Post Danmark and the Swedish postal operator Posten AB, PostNordemploys around 40,000 employees with sales of about SEK 40 billion (€4.64 billion).
