Belgian postal operator bpost succeeded in reducing its CO2 emissions by 35% between 2007 and2012 and is well on the way to its target of a 45% reduction by 2020.
Bpost now uses only ‘green electricity’, has installed solar panels at many facilities and hasintroduced 2,500 electric vehicles to its fleet.
The company said that it has moved up to second place in the International Post Corporation’sranking of postal operators’ environmental management from the lower half of the field just fouryears ago.
To celebrate its achievement, bpost is for the first time issuing stamps certified asenvironmentally-friendly by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). The stamps, showing differentkinds of leaves, use paper from forests that are managed sustainably, and their entire productionchain has been certified as meeting FSC standards.
