DHL Express is planning to invest over US$20 million in new gateway terminals at the airports ofRiyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia to support business growth in the region.
The new gateways at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd InternationalAirport in Dammam will measure over 20,000 sqm and will soon go into operation, the company said.
They will be linked to all major DHL Express distribution hubs around the world including thecompany’s regional hub in Bahrain, as well as the new DHL Express North Asia Hub in Shanghai,China.
DHL said the new investment has been set in place to meet the increasing demands on itsservices in Saudi Arabia, a key market in the wider GCC region. The terminals will support theexpansion of trade by increasing connections between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, Asia and the UnitedStates. The investment in the two international airports underscores the importance of logisticsoperations in Saudi Arabia to the wider Middle East and reaffirms DHL’s long-term commitment toproviding international transport solutions to customers in Saudi Arabia and throughout the region.
Saudi Arabia is investing heavily at present in its logistics infrastructure, includingairports and road, experts pointed out.
The King Fahd international airport in Dammam will double freight capacities inbound andoutbound from Saudi Arabia, which will open up opportunity for increased commercial trade throughthe Eastern gate of the Kingdom with both land-trucking and air cargo clearances in the developingKFIA Cargo Village, DHL noted.
Commenting on the new investment, Geoff Walsh, DHL Express Country Manager Saudi Arabia,said: “The combined area of the new gateways exceeds 20,000 square metres, allowing DHL Express toincrease our operational capacities in the region and double our logistics offerings to ourcustomers in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and across the GCC region. The new investment marks anothersignificant milestone for us as we continue to focus on serving growing markets and offeringworld-class levels of services.”
Meanwhile, DHL said it continues to discuss further investments in airport facilities in KSAto support continued growth and underlined that the Saudi Arabian authorities are working hard tosupport DHL Express and its investment plans.
