DHL Global Forwarding adds e-commerce supply chain services

DHL Global Forwarding is ramping up its supply chain services to meet the changing demands formulti-channel supply chain fulfillment as the e-commerce industry continues to grow.



The DHL air and ocean freight specialist said it has expanded its International Supply Chain(ISC) services in the Americas in response to increasing customer demands.

“Our customers have requested a partner that can harmonise all their order fulfilmentrequirements on to one operating platform,” said Ricardo Carrion, senior director BusinessDevelopment ISC Latin America for DHL Global Forwarding. “DHL’s ISC product team has designedsolutions for a multitude of sectors that are cost efficient, extensive and geared toward therecent changes in consumer purchasing trends.”

Over the last year, the DHL Global Forwarding’s International Supply Chain (ISC) productexperienced an increase of customer requests across the Americas, looking for a variety offulfilment capabilities for their amplified e-commerce, mobile, and direct to consumer sales. ISChas been focusing on these new demands with its customised approach that includes multi-channelvisibility, cutting-edge technology and value-added services, while building on DHL’s existingglobal supply chain infrastructure.

The retail industry and other industries, such as general consumer goods, technology, andmachinery manufacturing, are requesting a supply chain provider who is flawless, prompt and offerscompetitive prices. Many customers are also looking for innovative fulfilment methods, value-addedservices at origin, distribution, and warehousing, among others, DHL said.

ISC was established to be a centre of excellence linking customers’ country of origin supplychains with their destination market requirements, centrally managed through a single point.

The ISC unit currently offers services including purchase order management, suppliermanagement, origin logistics services, transport management, visibility and information managementand supply chain consultancy. Its IT platform, known as Galaxy, enables customers to securelycreate, access and manage their bookings online and see how many stock items are positioned acrossmultiple supply chain locations.

According to the “State of The Retail Supply Chain Report,” during the 2011 holiday season,electronic commerce sales grew by more than 15 per cent to $35.3 billion, with mobile commerceplaying a growing role. The report also states that as demand shifts from in-store to online andmobile methods, multi-channel fulfilment becomes more critical to the success of many retailers.

“Retail, as well as other industries, seek consistency, delivery options, and convenience forits customers at any point-of-order. We are expanding our capabilities to meet these needs, as wellas help those new e-retailers navigate the supply chain and establish a distribution system thatworks most efficiently for them,” said Jin Choi, director, Strategic Development and Marketing,ISC.
