DPD has launched the Predict service with advance notification of home delivery times to Belgiumand Luxemburg following its introduction in the Netherlands in April this year as part of its
pan-European rollout.DPD Predict gives recipients advance notice of a time window for delivery of their purchase totheir home address and is the first service on the market with consumers being proactively informedabout the period within which their parcel will be delivered.
As part of the Predict service, recipients receive an email or text message on the day of thedelivery that states the planned period of the delivery. They can then choose whether or not it issuitable for them. If it is not, another delivery day can be scheduled and DPD provides therecipient with at least three alternatives.
DPD Netherlands explained that the service was launched for customers to be able to decide forthemselves when the delivery will take place to make sure they are at home. This provides moreconvenience and security both for the recipient and the driver.
Introduced for the first time on the UK market with a one-hour delivery time window in February2010, the service was expanded to Germany under the name “FlexDelivery” with a time window of 2-6hours on the day of delivery.
Michaël van Ooijen, CEO DPD Nederland and Head Cluster Benelux, said: “We see that Dutchwebshops are increasing cross-border sales, and in particular Belgium and Germany can be consideredgrowth markets. By servicing consumers in other countries the same as we do in the Netherlands, DPDwants to make it easier for consumers from other countries to order products at Dutch webshops. This objective DPD has fits perfectly with the aspiration the European Union has to stimulatecross-border e-commerce.”
Looking ahead, DPD aims to further expand the service features including options such aschanging delivery address or indicating another delivery location, e.g. the DPD parcel shop.
