Leading companies in the international express and parcels industries including UPS, DHL,Austrian Post, Toll Group, GLS, UK Mail and Itella made executive and senior managerial
appointments during July and the beginning of August.Kevin M. Warsch, 42, has been named company director by the UPS Board of Directors. The formermember of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve served four years at the White House as thepresident’s special assistant for economic policy. He is a former president and executive directorof Morgan Stanley’s M&A Department and is currently a lecturer at Stanford University’sGraduate School of Business.
Tim Davis has been named new president of The UPS Store franchise network, replacing StuartMathis, who is retiring. Before he joined The UPS Store Davis served in various leadershippositions for ConnectShip. In 2001, he became vice president of technology of The UPS Store andthen moved on to the position of vice president of operations, his latest position before thecurrent assignment.
Florence Noblot has been appointed Director of Commercial Projects for DHL Express at worldwidelevel and reporting to John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express Europe. During her 19 years at DHL Express,Noblot has held numerous positions in Brussels, Singapore and Shanghai. In 2008 she became head ofDHL Express France and oversaw the repositioning of the company in international express after thedomestic parcels disposal.
The new head of DHL Express France will be Michel Akavi, formerly managing director of DHLExpress for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. The 59-year-old polyglot, who speaks numerouslanguages, will be responsible for 1,700 employees in his new position. He joined DHL in 1999 ashead of DHL Express Turkey and later gained responsibility for the surrounding region.
In Africa, Essete Gebriel has been named new DHL country manager for Ethiopia. She will be incharge of driving business growth and market share, as well as customer management, sales andmarketing. Gebriel has over fourteen years of experience in the logistics industry in various keymanagement positions.
Austrian Post has made three managerial appointments. Walter Oblin, 43, has succeeded RudolfJettmar as CFO. Jettmar, who served in this position since 1999, has retired at the end of June.Oblin, who started his career as a management consultant for McKinsey in Vienna, was previouslyHead of Strategy and Group Development at Austrian Post.
Also at Austrian Post, Horst Ulrich Mooshandl, 36, has been appointed new chief procurementofficer. He has previously worked as senior vice president of procurement and supply for DeutscheTelekom. Carsten Wallmann has been named Austrian Post’s new leader of the Department of Strategyand Corporate Development. He has a strong background in business law and has started hisprofessional career at McKinsey, from where he moved to Austrian Post in 2011.
Toll Group has announced the appointment of Avi Gilboa as new Group Director for Strategy andM&A. Gilboa has nearly 20 years of experience in various private equity, corporate advisory andinvestment management roles. He most recently served as Managing Director of Unitas Capital,formerly JP Morgan Partners Asia, for Australia and New Zealand.
At GLS, Christian Herrlich has been appointed new Managing Director of GLS IT Services. Arecognised CEP industry expert, the 44-year-old will be responsible for the entire IT system ofGLS. Herrlich has held various positions at Deutsche Post DHL in Bonn, most recently as CIO andmember of the divisional board of DHL Paket Deutschland.
UK Mail has named two new members of the management. Sarah Maddox has been appointed HRDirector, bringing with her 30 years of experience in this field. She joins UK Mail from NationalExpress, where she started in 1998 as a HR Officer and progressed in 14 years to Head of HR. SimonBaxter has been appointed by UK Mail as new Customer Strategy Director. He has seven years’experience in a similar role at Anglian Water, where he worked as Head of Developer Services.Baxter will be working closely with Care Centre Managers and Client Teams in order to improvecustomer satisfaction.
Finnish postal group Itella has appointed Pirjo Kaasinen as Head of Marketing and StrategicSales. Currently holding the position of Sales Director at Digi TV Plus Oy, Kaasinen has gainedexperience in marketing and sales management at various companies including Canon. At Itella, shewill be responsible for developing and executing the marketing and branding strategy, as well assales and strategic customers. Kaasinen will also be a member of Itella’s Management Board.
