Stretching from Assam to the Himalayas and Rajasthan, the power failures are understood to havecreated one of the worst blackouts to hit the nation in a decade.

A FedEx spokesman told CEP-Research: “FedEx operations and services have not been affected bythe power outages. We have operational contingency plans in place, including power back-upprovisions, to ensure the continuity of our services. FedEx remains committed to providingexcellent customer service and we will keep our customers informed should the situation impact ouroperations.”

CEP-Research requested information from DHL, TNT and UPS, but none was able to reply intime.

Reports this afternoon indicated that India’s energy crisis deepened today after a third powergrid collapsed, leaving half the country without electricity for a second day. Sky News reportedthat more than 600 million people were currently without electricity following the collapse of athird power grid.

It comes just a day after India’s northern power grid collapsed, halting hundreds of trains andforcing hospitals and airports to rely on back-up generators. Indian officials managed to restorepower several hours later, but the energy crisis deepened when the region was hit with anotherblackout today, which spread across more than half of the country when the eastern andnorth-eastern grids also collapsed.
