German-based trans-o-flex has started the construction of a new logistics centre near Frankfurt, especially designed to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, which

is expected to create 80 new jobs.

Located in Alzenau, about 50km from Frankfurt International Airport, the warehouse offers idealconditions for the implementation of international distribution concepts. It is due to becomeoperational in January 2013.

“With the new logistic centre in Alzenau, we can expand our capacities again,” Oliver Rupps, managing director of the trans-o-flex Logistics Group, said. “This construction project emphasisesthe focus of trans-o-flex Logistik-Service and the entire trans-o-flex Logistics Group on offeringthe pharmaceutical industry holistically high-value logistic solutions.”

The warehouse is being built in cooperation with the international real-estate developerPanattoni Europe on a 20,000 sqm site with additional areas for extension. In the first expansionstage, a 10,000 sqm high-bay warehouse with 13,500 storing positions and 11,000 lower-shelf spaceshave partly been installed on a mezzanine floor in the 10-m high hall to increase the plant’sefficiency and to facilitate the picking and packing.

To meet all of the required GMP standards of the pharmaceutical industry, trans-o-flex willinvest approximately €2 million in the interior work alone. The logistic centre thus will be fullyair-conditioned with temperature control and monitoring systems to ensure compliance with therequested temperature range and pest control standards.

In addition to fast and reliable shipment processes using a conveying and picking & packingunit, security also played an important part in the design. Along with a burglar alarm systemconnected to a security service team, there will also be a camera-surveillance system to monitorand control access via a specific turnstile.
