DHL Supply Chain today officially opened its new state-of-the-art MegaHub Hong Kong facility aspart of an ongoing €524 million investment in expanding its operations in North Asia.
The hub, located at Interlink in the Tsing Yi district, represents a total investment of HK$630million (€63 million) and offers nearly 90,000 sqm of warehouse space. The facility is focusedparticularly on large and SME high-tech and electronics customers, and offers regional and globaldistribution as well as diverse added-value services such as spare parts logistics and returnsmanagement.
The DHL Supply Chain MegaHub Hong Kong is a significant milestone in the company’s expansion ofits regional infrastructure. To date, the DHL division has invested a total of €224 million infacilities in its North Asian sub-region over the past three years, and projects to spend another€300 million from now to 2015.
Recent investments in the region include new warehouse facilities in China targeting theconsumer sector, a multi customer site in South Korea and an expansion of the retail footprint inJapan. Potential projects for the near future include several new facilities in China (Beijing,Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen), Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

In Hong Kong, DSC now has 10 facilities with a total of 150,000 sqm warehousing space,providing storage and regional distribution services for key sectors such as technology, retail,healthcare, consumer and aviation.
Victor Mok, head of DSC North Asia, stressed that Hong Kong would continue to be the maingateway to and from Southern China in future, providing regional and global distribution, whileDSC’s planned new facilities in Southern China would focus more on domestic distribution.
Strategically placed in the heart of Tsing Yi, the DHL Supply Chain MegaHub offers direct accessto Hong Kong’s transport network including proximity to Hong Kong international airport, the city’scentral business district, container terminals and even mainland China.
Building on a longstanding relationship with Interlink developer Goodman, DHL selected the siteas an embodiment of its GoGreen commitment to sustainability. Built tointernationally-recognised standards of environmentally-friendly accreditation, the facility isdesigned to minimiae waste and use of resources to provide a low-impact solution withoutcompromising on service quality.

The site caters for varied client needs, offering both ramp access floors, for large inboundand outbound volumes, and cargo lift floors, with additional features such as temperature controland secure cages. The building’s two-tier security system ensures first-class protection forcustomer goods and is coupled with extensive safety features to minimize fire risk.
The Interlink facility in Tsing Yi also houses a recently-opened DHL Express Service Centre,covering 4,500 sqm. This €3.4 million investment handles some 10,000 shipments a day and about 110tonnes, which about one third of the operator’s outbound volume in Hong Kong.
