Itella Logistics

Itella Logistics has completed the restructuring of its operations in Sweden and Denmark, with44 permanent employees to be laid off in order to save costs, a lower number than initially

forecast.

In February this year, the logistics unit of the Finnish postal operator Itella estimated thatthe restructuring of its operations in Sweden and Denmark would lead to a headcount reduction of 70permanent employees. “Upon the conclusion of the employee negotiations, the headcount reductionneed was specified as 44 permanent employees,” Itella Logistics explained. It employs a total of403 people in Sweden and Denmark.

The job cuts are due to synergies arising from the merger of Itella Logistics’ Sweden andDenmark activities in October 2011, with the two organisations now under common management, whichthe company claims strengthens its position in Scandinavia. The merger followed Itella Group’sannouncement of a €100 million cost-cutting programme in August 2011.

Itella’s three-year cost-cutting programme includes a review all of the group’s business andsupport functions in order to secure continued financial stability at a time of rapidly decreasingvolumes of home-delivered mail, as the trend increasingly goes towards digital communication.
