Irish An Post equips its entire delivery staff with mobile computers for better tracking

Irish postal operator An Post has equipped all its 4,200 delivery workers with Intermec’s CN50mobile computers in cooperation with Zetes, a global supply chain and mobility solutions provider,

using its 100% paperless track and trace system to improve delivery service for customers.

As part of the company’s ongoing change management strategy, the new solution provides An Postwith a competitive advantage in the growing e-commerce sector. “As the volume of e-commercetransactions continues to rise, being able to offer this level of service to all our customers fordeliveries or returns is a big differentiator for us,” Liam O’Sullivan, Mails Operations Directorat An Post, said. “Together with our unrivalled quality of service record, this makes us an evenmore effective service provider to domestic and international customers.”

Zetes said An Post is the first national postal operator worldwide to equip its entire postaldelivery workforce of 4,200 on foot, bicycle or van based delivery staff- with a handheld scannerto confirm, track and trace deliveries and collections in real time. With its electronic proof ofdelivery (ePOD) system, senders receive an automatic delivery confirmation within two hours via AnPost’s website.

Zetes explained that its in-house-developed solution improves An Post’s overall customerexperience including traceability of shipments and eliminating process inefficiencies. It reducesthe manual administration required for proof of delivery (POD) cards and further improves thecompany’s environmental footprint through lower paper consumption. Zetes developed the final 3-in-1mobile application for An Post which features In-van scanning, mini track and trace and real-timetraceability of consignments.

“Working with Zetes as the software provider and system integrator on this business-criticalproject has been a very positive experience,” O’Sullivan added. “We have been impressed by theproject team’s ability to collaborate so effectively between ourselves and Intermec as the hardwaremanufacturer, and their advice on achieving additional cost savings, such as maximising the batterylifespan, has been invaluable.”

In addition to developing and implementing the track and trace solution, Zetes will provide athree-year managed service to An Post. This includes weekday end user support from the ZetesService Desk between 6am and 6pm, next day exchange and hardware maintenance of the Intermec CN50devices, remote device management, application support and IT service management.
