Post Nord merges Post Danmark’s and DPD Danmark’s networks into one

The Swedish-Danish postal group PostNord and its franchise business DPD Danmark have mergedtheir Danish parcel operations into a single transportation network to reduce costs and create new

DPD CEO Arnold Schroven explained: “This cooperation will enable us to secure and expand ourposition on the important northern European parcels market with its fast growth rates. For ourcustomers, this means even more stability, reliability and efficiency, because the merger willallow us to increase the density of our delivery network in Denmark significantly.”

With the merger, parcel production will take place in Post Danmark’s distribution centres and inits two high-tech logistics centres in Brøndby and Taulov. DPD Denmark’s Kolding terminal will beretained as a transit and sorting centre for DPD’s growing international traffic in and out ofDenmark. Customers will continue to benefit from the complete range of DPD products.

Under the agreement, Post Denmark has taken over the employees from DPD Danmark. To leverage onthe customer awareness of both brand, vehicles in the common network will bear either the DPD logoor the one of Post Danmark.

“We are combining the two systems, creating a uniform production process and bundling our parcelvolumes,” Carsten Dalbo, CEO of Post Danmark Logistik, explained. “This will enable us to achieveeconomies of scale, improve capacity utilisation for our depots and vehicles, reduce costs and notleast reduce our carbon footprint.”

DPD Denmark is owned by PostNord under a franchise agreement with La Poste’s European parcelsbusiness. PostNord, which recently signed a long-term cooperation agreement with DPD, is also thefranchise partner for DPD in Sweden and owns DPD Norway.

Initially, Swedish Post was a partner of DPD for the whole of Scandinavia ensuring the DPDservice in various countries via its own subsidiaries. Through the merger with Danish Post, thepreviously independent parcel networks of DPD Danmark A/S and Post Danmark A/S could be combinedinto one.
