DHL Express is offering Italian exporters faster deliveries to Asia with new twice-weekly B777Fflights by joint venture Aerologic from Bergamo to Hong Kong.
The flights, on Thursdays and Sundays, are a new stopover on existing eastbound flights fromLeipzig to Hong Kong. DHL Express decided to introduce the new service in order to be able to loadItalian exports that were previously trucked to its Leipzig hub.
“We used to truck volumes from Bergamo to Leipzig but with this stopover we can move morematerial faster and more economically. Also, it improves network efficiency,” spokesman Dan McGrathtold CEP-Research.
Bergamo’s Orio al Serio airport, about 65km east of Milan, is already used by DHL forintra-European flights and operates as one of its sub-hubs.
Aerologic, a joint venture between DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo with a fleet of eight B777freighters, operates weekday flights between Europe and Asia/Middle East/North America for DHL andweekend flights between Europe and North America for Lufthansa Cargo. Most of the DHL flightsoperate out of the Leipzig hub but there are several flights from Brussels and East MidlandsAirport in the UK.
