FedEx Freight has announced an increase in its shipping rates of 6.9 per cent coming into effect onJuly 9, 2012, applying to interstate and intrastate traffic in the USA and Canada.
Rates for shipments between the US and Mexico will go up 6.9 per cent for the US leg of thetransportation. Various additional adjustments will include absolute minimum and accessorialcharges.
The FedEx Freight fuel surcharge will remain unchanged and is one of the lowest in the LTLindustry, the company said. It claimed that the published fuel surcharge rates of the next sixlargest LTL carriers are at least 23 per cent higher than FedEx Freight fuel surcharge rates, basedon the average national price of diesel fuel as of June 4, 2012.
FedEx previously announced increases to shipping rates for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground,which came into effect on January 2, 2012. FedEx Express package and freight rates increased onaverage by 5.9 per cent for US, US export and US import services. The shipping rate increase waspartially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuelsurcharge by 2 percentage points. FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery rates also increased anaverage of 5.9 per cent.
FedEx Freight provides trucking services to virtually all US zip codes, including Alaska andHawaii. Internationally, the company serves Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Central and South America,the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
