Atlas Air adds ninth B747 freighter to DHL Express air operations

US-based cargo airline Atlas Air is to provide a ninth Boeing 747-400 freighter to Polar AirCargo, the Atlas Air-DHL joint-owned company that provides capacity for DHL Express and other

customers, primarily on trans-Pacific trade lanes.

The additional freighter will be supplied from July by Atlas Air on an ACMI basis, expanding DHLExpress’s dedicated trans-Pacific freighter network and further broadening the cooperation betweenthe two companies. It complements the eight aircraft that Atlas Air already has in service for DHL’s global express business.

William Flynn, President and Chief Executive Officer for Atlas Air Worldwide, said: “Thisincremental aircraft reflects the continued growth of DHL Express and our proven ability to supportcustomer initiatives by delivering global operating scale and consistent service excellence.”

In March this year, Atlas Air started operating a B767 cargo service for DHL Express on NorthAmerica routes as part of its previously announced long-term CMI (crew, maintenance and insurance)contract, with five DHL-owned B767-200s to be deployed on routings to and from DHL’s Cincinnati hubby the third quarter of 2012.

Atlas Air Worldwide is the parent company of Atlas Air and Titan Aviation Leasing and is themajority shareholder of Polar Air Cargo Worldwide. Through Atlas and Polar, Atlas Air Worldwideoperates the world’s largest fleet of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft. Atlas, Titan and Polar offer arange of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services that include ACMI service, in whichcustomers receive an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance on a long-term basis. They alsooffer the CMI service, for customers that provide their own aircraft as well as express network andscheduled air cargo services.
