PostNord

PostNord is merging the Danish parcel operations of Post Danmark and franchise business DPDDenmark to reduce costs and create new growth opportunities.

The Swedish-Danish postal group’s move will see five DPD depots in Denmark close and staff willtransfer to Post Danmark.

PostDanmark announced that from June 25 its domestic parcels operation will merge with that ofDPD Denmark, which is owned by PostNord under a franchise agreement with La Poste’s Europeanparcels business. PostNord, which recently signed a long-term cooperation agreement with DPD, isalso the franchise partner for DPD in Sweden and owns DPD Norway.

“The Danish logistics market is characterised by intense competition, and with this merger, wewill now have the scale that we gained through the PostNord group,” explained Carsten Dalbo, Headof Post Denmark Logistics.

“By collecting the parcels in a common production flow, we can include larger parcel volumes infewer parcel centres and use our vehicles more efficiently. The merger cements our position as thenatural first choice when it comes to solve logistics tasks to, from and within Scandinavia,” headded.

In future, parcel production will take place in Post Danmark’s distribution centres and in itstwo high-tech logistics centres in Brøndby and Taulov. DPD Denmark’s Kolding terminal will beretained as a transit and sorting centre for DPD’s growing international traffic in and out ofDenmark.

“The merger means that we terminate the contract with the truckers who have been operating forDPD and, instead, Post Denmark’s drivers will handle the transport. Employees from DPD Denmarkterminals and depots will transfer to Post Danmark,” Dalbo said.

The DPD products and brand will continue unchanged in the market. In future, DPD customers inDenmark will find that their packages will be picked up or distributed by vehicles with either theDPD logo or the Post Denmark logo.
