CEP managerial appointments in April-May

Leading companies in the international express and parcels industries including DHL, UPS and TNTmade executive and senior managerial appointments during April and May.

DHL Express has appointed Alan Cassels as new Managing Director for Equatorial Africa.Succeeding Alastair Russell, who worked for DHL for over 32 years, Cassels will be responsible forthe company’s activities in the region including Kenya, Angola, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. After21 years at DHL and 30 years in the industry working as a Country Manager in both developing anddeveloped countries, Cassels is now looking forward to working in Equatorial Africa.

“Equatorial Africa holds huge growth potential for the DHL brand as we continue to invest ininfrastructure, build our customer base and deliver more value for both businesses and generalconsumers,” comments Cassels. “DHL operates in more than 220 countries worldwide and over 50 withinSub-Saharan Africa with a dedicated air network and unparalleled infrastructure. This provides ahuge benefit for businesses and private customers looking to access our network, connecting thecountries within Equatorial Africa with the world.”

DHL Global Mail has appointed Jérôme de Varreux as new Managing Director for Switzerland andItaly. Working for DHL since 2001, de Varreux has held various positions in sales and customermanagement and has specialised in customer liaison and support.

Meanwhile, UPS Asia Pacific has named Christopher Perkins as vice president of businessdevelopment and Phillip Wu as vice president for marketing. Perkins, a 30-year UPS veteran, hasmost recently been leading business development and sales activities in the North Asia District.Before relocating to Asia, he was the Director of Sales for the South California District andGeorgia District. Commenting on his new role, Perkins said: “Asia is a key strategic region forUPS. I am excited to further develop the business here and help Asian customers better connect totheir global markets through UPS’s integrated logistics capabilities.”

Wu has been with UPS for 19 years and recently held the position as senior director ofenterprise pricing at UPS’s headquarters after he had been marketing director of the UPS Chinadistrict. Starting his career at UPS as an application programmer in 1993, Wu was promoted intomanagement in 1996 and, since then, rose through the ranks as marketing manager for globale-commerce and later as marketing director for global revenue management. “I look forward tobuilding upon the great strides the team here has accomplished and to growing the UPS brandfurther,” said Wu. “Asia’s dynamic and diverse business environment, with all its opportunities,makes it an exciting place to be right now.” Perkins succeeds Geoff Bastow and Wu takes over fromChris Grubb, both of whom have moved onto new assignments at UPS’s corporate office.

In India, UPS has appointed Mark Martyn-Fisher as managing director. Succeeding Mark Khambatta,who has moved to UPS’s Asia Pacific strategy team, Martyn-Fisher now oversees the express andsupply chain operations of the company in India.

Pieter de Wit, former CEO Finance at TNT Innight, has been named the successor of Philip Allietas CEO for the TNT Innight group. In his new position, he is responsible for Innight’s activitiesin Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. De Withas more than three years of experience as Director Planning and Business Control for TNT. Beforethat, he held several leadership positions in the fields of strategy and finance.  

FedEx has made two senior appointments in Latin America. Troy Maxey has been named as the newManaging Director for Brazil, where he will oversee the company’s operations in a rapidly growingmarket. In Mexico, Jorge Torres has been appointed new vice-president of operations. Torres, thefirst Mexican to hold the position, previously worked as senior manager of operations for Bajío inMexico.

At Toll Group, Damian Bishop has been promoted to the newly created role of Group DirectorBusiness Development. Bishop has 30 years of experience in the Australian logistics industry.During his career he spent 12 years with TNT Express and eight years with Ansett Australia beforejoining Toll in 2002. There, he worked in various sales roles including National Sales Manager forToll Fast and General Manager of Group Business Development – Australia. In his new position,Bishop will develop long term strategic partnerships with global, regional and domestic customersand will be responsible for driving industry sector solution selling as well as creating andcapturing opportunities for long term global growth and performance.

At PostNord, Mats Lönnqvist will resign from his position of Executive Vice President and ChiefFinancial Officer on June 1. Until a successor is found, the company’s deputy CFO, Torsten Fels,will hold his former position temporarily. Meanwhile, Henning Christensen has taken over as head ofPostNord’s Breve Danmark business area. With extensive experience in the Danish mail market fromhis previous position as head of Production and Transport of PostNord’s operations in Denmark,Christensen succeeds Finn Hansen, who will move on to implement a new operating control model inthe PostNord group. “I am extremely pleased that Henning Christensen is taking over leadership ofthe Danish mail operations, and I am entirely confident that this will be done with results on parwith previous levels,” said Lars Idermark, President and CEO of PostNord.
