PostNord is free to take over regional newspaper distribution business Svensk Morgondistributionafter the Swedish Competition Authority decided not to review the acquisition.
The Swedish-Danish postal group, which is diversifying its activities in response to thedecline in traditional letters, said that the parties can now finalise the transaction by June 1,as planned.
On April 19, 2012 PostNord’s wholly-owned subsidiary Tidningstjänst AB announced its signingof an agreement for the takeover of Svensk Morgondistribution KB operations from the media groupsMittMedia and Västerbottens-Kuriren. The agreement between PostNord and Mittmedia andVästerbottens-Kuriren covers distribution of the media group’s morning newspapers over severalyears.
PostNord stressed that the takeover of Svensk Morgondistribution is fully in line with itsstrategy to develop profitable new businesses that support the mail businesses, where the group isestablishing new fields of application for existing production resources. Increasing theutilisation of the group’s vehicle fleet generates additional business opportunities in areasincluding morning newspaper distribution and home deliveries.
