DHL Express UK opens new Maidstone service centre

DHL Express UK has this week opened a new service centre in Maidstone, Kent, to manage a 40 percent increase in exporting volumes in the area.



Part of DHL’s wider investment and growth in the UK, the site’s capacity has been increasedto six times its original size from 4,000 sq ft (372 sqm) to 24,000 sq ft (2,230 sqm) in order tomanage the region’s growing demand. DHL said it expects some 750,000 shipments to and from thelocal area per year.

Phil Couchman, CEO of DHL Express UK & Ireland, opened the site alongside local MP TraceyCrouch, who attended to get an insight into the company’s business. Crouch, MP for Chatham andAylesford, commented: “I was delighted to attend the opening of the new DHL Maidstone servicecentre. DHL offers an outstanding global connection, and the new centre will help supportinternational trade, whilst benefiting local jobs and the economy. This is great news for localresidents and customers, as they can benefit from the expanded service through means such as thedrop off and collection of overseas deliveries.”

Couchman commented: “This strategic investment in the Maidstone area is reflective of thestrength of our growing logistics network in the UK. We plan on continuing our investment where wesee opportunities for future growth, and maintain and build on the high standards we deliver forour customers.”

The new service centre offers international (express parcel) services to and from the UK,including a drop off and collection facility at the site. It is equipped with the latest technologyand up to date mechanical handling equipment to cope with rising volumes as well as the latestheating and lighting standards to reduce the environmental impact.
