Italian express operator BRT (Bartolini) has ordered its 19th sorting system from Dutchmanufacturer Vanderlande Industries and will install the high-capacity system in a new hub at
Perugia, central Italy.BRT (best-known under its former name of Bartolini) has again ordered a Posisorter systemfrom Vanderlande for delivery in December 2012. The contract value was not disclosed.
The Italian firm plans to open the new hub, which will be one of the largest centres in itsnetwork, in the first week of 2013. The Vanderlande system will form the heart of the new Perugiahub and will handle up to 8,800 parcels per hour with 9 infeeds and a total of 47 destinationchutes.
BRT has been expanding its network of parcel and freight facilities for several years. Thisyear it opened a 9,000 sqm facility for heavy goods at Padua in northern Italy in January, movedits Salerno branch to a larger 4,000 sqm facility in April and opened a new 8,000 sqm branch atCastrolvillari in Calabria on May 2. It also opened a new 2,000 sqm branch at Avellino, nearNaples, last September.
Bartolini officially changed its name to BRT SpA in June 2011. The company has some 14,000employees, over 7,500 vehicles and more than 170 branches across Italy, and delivers about 125million parcels a year.
