City Link invests in new depot at Chelmsford

British express parcels carrier City Link has opened a new state-of-the-art depot at Chelmsford,Essex, with a view to expanding its operations there.



At 72,000 square feet (6,700 sqm), the new facility represents a substantial investment andgives City Link the capacity to handle more parcels than ever before in the area. As well asproviding room for on-site collection and delivery loading, the new depot is large enough to offerdedicated parking for trunking vehicles.

City Link’s operations will be streamlined at the new site which replaces the company’s twosmaller Chelmsford North and Chelmsford South Depots. Not only were they five miles apart, theyalso offered far less space. The new depot is 50 per cent larger than both Chelmsford North andChelmsford South combined.

Paul Dillon, Depot Manager, said: “The new Chelmsford Depot will enable City Link to offereven greater levels of service to our customers. We are delighted with the new facilities and theemployees have worked extremely hard to ensure the transition was as smooth as possible. These areexciting times for City Link. As well as investing in depots, City Link has recently invested £5 million in totallytransforming its customer care operation as part of embedding a “right first time” culture acrossthe whole company. The parcel carrier now has the capacity to track every aspect of its operations,from the delivery of parcels to the logging of customer complaints, in order to deliver afirst-class service to its customers and recipients of parcels.

With its secure caged network and popular ‘My City Link’ service that allows customers totrack the whereabouts of their consignments in virtually real-time from any computer anywhere thathas access to the internet, City Link is at the forefront of the express delivery sector.
