Australia Post has unveiled further details of the key features of its new, free Digital MailBoxfor all Australian citizens launched last week deploying a secure digital delivery system called “

“The Australia Post Digital Mailbox will allow citizens and businesses to communicate with thegovernment and corporations through a secure online portal that can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7days a week, wherever they are,” Australia Post Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Fahour said.

Australia Post stressed that the digital delivery service is highly secure, unlike traditionale-mail or the internet. Thereby, all information will be encrypted sothat only the intended recipient can view it.

For electronic billing and payments, there is a separate website available for users to see andadminister their transactional mail. They will also be able to read and print mail, set remindersand pay bills. Via the secure digital vault, they can also store important documents such as taxrecords, a copy of their passport or other household documents which they will then be able toaccess from anywhere. The mailbox will be available on iPad, iPhone and Android platforms and theconsumer’s desktop.

“For senders of mail, this is a low cost and secure platform that integrates a world classpostal service with a secure digital communications suite to provide an offering of physical, digital and hybrid mail,” Fahour added.

For businesses and governmental institutions, the system provides a flexible range ofintegration options to allow them to connect securely to their customers through the Australia PostDigital Mailbox.
