FedEx Express introduces B777 flights from Cologne hub to Memphis

FedEx Express has launched a new B777 freighter service from its Central & Eastern Europehub at Cologne Bonn Airport to Memphis, USA, with four flights per week enhancing efficiency and

benefitting the environment.

Until now, FedEx has been deploying a MD-11 aircraft on the route between Cologne and Memphis.Compared to MD-11, the B777F has the capacity to transport seven tonnes more freight and fly almost3,900 kilometers further than the MD-11 while using less fuel. In addition, it also emits 18% lessCO2 and is much quieter in operation. As a result, the new aircraft offers FedEx new possibilitiesfor its services and network, ecological advantages and benefits customers and communities.

“Our overall objective is to transport parcels and freight shipments reliably and as quickly asnecessary in the most environmentally friendly way possible,” according to Antje Schütt-Fahrenkrog,regional vice president, Operations, Central/Eastern Europe and Israel, FedEx Express. “To achievethis, we make use of innovative technologies across-the-board which we often help to develop, as aglobal and responsible company. Here in Cologne, we are proud that one of the most modern andfuel-efficient aircraft in our fleet is now serving the airport. We are also thrilled that thelargest solar energy system at any FedEx Express site in the world can be found on the roof of ourhub.”

“The deployment of the FedEx B777F in Cologne is a good move – both for the environment as wellas the communities around the airport”, Michael Garvens, chairman of the Management Board ofAirport Cologne/Bonn, said. “It’s also great news that FedEx Express has become the first companyflying to Cologne with a B777F on a regular basis.”

FedEx Express is gradually adding the B777 freighters to its global aircraft fleet. The companycurrently uses 17 freighters of this type and plans to add another 30 by mid-2019.

Separately, FedEx Trade Networks, the growing FedEx ocean and air freight forwarding business,has further expanded its international network with three new offices in the USA, located inPhoenix (Arizona), St. Louis (Missouri) and Milwaukee (Wisconsin).

The new US offices offer a full suite of FedEx Trade Networks air and ocean freight forwardingand customs brokerage solutions. Its wide range of freight forwarding options includes value-addedservices such as online shipment visibility with My Global Trade Data, purchase order managementvia Global Order Logistics, surface transportation, warehousing, distribution and a variety ofmultimodal services.

“Launching operations in these new markets strengthens our infrastructure and provides us withenhanced coverage to meet our customers’ evolving needs. By increasing our US office network, wecan continue to offer customers a wider variety of solutions and routing options to fit theirinternational freight forwarding and customs brokerage supply chains,” Andy Henry, vice presidentof US Operations for FedEx Trade Networks, said. “Opening additional US offices is also a keycomponent of our ongoing global expansion. Over the last few years, we have established operationsin some of the world’s most significant freight forwarding markets to support our growing customerbase.”

Since 2008, the company has aggressively expanded its global network opening a total of 50offices throughout Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia, in addition to its more than 70locations throughout the USA and Canada.
