DHL Express to build a new hub in Australia to boost growth

DHL Express Australia announced the upcoming construction of a new purpose-built AUD15 million(€12 million) facility with a processing hub and offices at Brisbane Airport as part of its 10-year

strategic initiative to boost growth in the region.

Construction will start next month on the hub which will feature high-speed re-weigh technologyexpected to improve outbound processing by 10-15%.

Chris Bresnahan, Executive Vice President, Network Operations & Aviation, DHL Express AsiaPacific, said: “Within the facility, there will be offices which will house over 100 DHL personnelcovering operations, sales, customs brokerage, gateway export and import, with sufficient capacityto accommodate future growth. These new facilities and our strategic focus on Brisbane are inresponse to real growth in business in the region.”

Despite the lowest increase in Queensland’s exports forecasted in DHL’s 2011 Export Barometer,the company said it remains positive on the state’s outlook for 2012.

“Despite Queensland’s flood-hit economy and continued global uncertainty, business confidencewithin Brisbane hasn’t faltered in the past year. This has been driven by an increase in consumershipments – propelled by the continued expansion of online retailing and mining,” Gary Edstein, DHLExpress, Senior Vice President Oceania, explained.

“Businesses in Brisbane are dynamic, varying from farming to fashion. Coupled with Brisbane’spotential as a gateway to assist with the general business growth in Papua New Guinea and ourstrong relationships with federal departments in Brisbane and the Brisbane Airport Corporation, weare looking forward to the years ahead with great confidence for the region,” he added.

DHL started investing in Brisbane last year with the relocation of its customer service centreto a refurbished office in the city which has been officially opened this month.
