British parcel and carrier manager, Global Freight Solutions (GFS), has added the deliverycompanies UK Mail and Hermes to its partners consisting of major carriers across the UK and
Ireland.The new deals expand the portfolio of carriers GFS customers can now choose from to ship goodsin the UK and overseas, Daniel Ennor, GFS Commercial Development Director, said.
“We provide choice to ensure our customers’ parcels are moved by the most appropriate carriers.Having two new partners provides us with even more expertise enabling us to deliver the very bestfit possible for both customer and carrier alike. UK Mail is the biggest independent logistics firmin the country while Hermes is recognised throughout the industry as a market leader in homedeliveries,” he explained.
UK Mail transports parcels, letters and pallets both across the UK and abroad via more than 53sites using 3,000 drivers. Earlier this month, the company reported a 10% rise in parcel volumesduring the last quarter of 2011 ending December 31.
Hermes is the UK’s largest home delivery courier network, handling more than 140 millioncollections and deliveries each year. As the UK subsidiary of the German Hermes Logistics Group,the company operates a network of more than 7,500 lifestyle couriers, providing delivery for a widerange of leading high street, catalogue and online retailers.
Following a strong increase in online shopping, Hermes generated a dramatic increase in parcelvolumes of nearly 40% over the Christmas period, in December last year.
Last year, GFS started offering free usage of its multi-carrier delivery management software tosmall shippers in response to concerns over the costs involved in parcel carrier contingency.
Founded in 2001, GFS handled more than five million parcels last year on behalf of clients inthe financial services, technology, baby products, leisure and automotive industries.
