UK express parcels carrier City Link has signed a new logistics contract with Perkins GroupServices, a leading British supplier of toys, games, stationery, seasonal and household products to
shops and supermarkets across the UK, to distribute its products.Among the 350 outlets across the UK featuring Perkins’ products are Martin McColl newsagents,The Co-op and Spar. The products range from stationery and toys, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and2012 Diamond Jubilee gifts, to soft toys, sponges and scourers.
City Link carries out the delivery for some 350 orders daily on behalf of Perkins using itsdomestic next-day service with goods being dispatched within 24 hours after ordering.
City Link highlighted the importance of its My City Link Service which informs customers onlineabout the status of their parcels and allows tracking of individual consignments. The system thusprovides a full, transparent picture of the company’s network.
Perkins Group Services Director Gary Gardner said the company already has seen tremendousbenefits from the City Link contract. “If there are any problems, issues or queries in terms ofdelivering our products, we need to know about it so we know how to react. We are in regularcontact with the Account Manager, IT Department and Sales Executives and every single one of themis keen to listen to any issues, ideas or suggestions we may have to help further strengthen thepartnership between Perkins and City Link.”
Separately, City Link said it is continuing its successful partnership with the UK award-winningnursery Crûg Farm Plants that started about five years ago. Located near Caernarfon in North Wales, the nursery offers thousands of varieties of rare and unusual wild plants from all over theworld.
The majority of Crûg Farm’s deliveries are B2C handled through City Link’s Next Day serviceacross the UK. But the nursery also takes regular orders from across Europe including Spain,Portugal, France and Germany. The majority are private customers but there are also orders fromarboretums, public gardens and nurseries. The European deliveries are also handled by City Linkthrough its NetExpress service, of which it is a founding partner.
City Link commented: “Understanding the transportation needs of Crûg Farm is vital among CityLink employees at all levels – from account executives, through to the depot managers and thedrivers making the deliveries. The plants have to be handled with care, kept at a consistenttemperature and not subject to heat or cold air. When they are being exported to countries outsideof the EU, such as Norway and Switzerland, the driver needs to produce the legal fumigationcertificate, proof of Crûg Farm’s status as a certified breeder, so customs officers are satisfiedthere is no risk of cross contamination or disease through transportation.”
