Deutsche Post and German union Ver.di agree on 4% salary increase

Deutsche Post and Ver.di reach agreement

Deutsche Post and the German union Ver.di have successfully reached an agreement in their labournegotiations resulting in a salary increase of 4% for the 130,000 postal employees with effect from

1 April 2012.

In addition to the 4% salary increase, Deutsche Post will pay a further 0.5% as a contributionto the demographic fund created in October 2011 as a pillar of its future model for partialretirement. For trainees at Deutsche Post, the monthly payment has increased by €50 from 1 January2012. The labour agreement is valid until 31 March 2013.

“Thanks to the enormous dedication of our employees, we had a very successful year 2011,” saidJurgen Gerdes, head of Deutsche Post DHL’s mail and parcel division. “It is important to me thatour employees share the success of the company with a reasonable wage increase, excellent workingconditions and secure employment. That is why I am delighted that we have succeeded with ver.di inseveral stages to agree on a full package that is fair for both parties – employees and thecompany.”

During the previous round of negotiations in December 2011, the two parties already agreed for2012 on a gross lump sum of €400 for full-time employees contracted under the collective labouragreement and €230 for employees with civil servant status. In addition, the exclusion ofoperational redundancies has been extended to 31.12.20115 with an employment pact.

Walter Scheurle, Member of the Management Board responsible for personnel at Deutsche Post DHL,commented: “The agreement is also an expression of the appreciation for our employees. With theexemplary Generations Pact and the agreed lump sum, we have concluded a package through which weconsequently pursue our goal to be the employer of choice.”
