Spanish postal operator Correos has increased the price for its domestic letter which is itsmost popular mail product by one euro-cent this year which equals a 2.86% rise.
Correos said this decision aims at a gradual alignment of costs, maintaining revenues and aboveall, higher quality and efficiency in providing the postal universal service to all Spanishcitizens.
With immediate effect, national letters and cards will cost €0.36 instead of the previous €0.35which is valid for ordinary, standard items weighing up to 20 grams. Even with this adjustment,Spain continues to be among the EU countries with the cheapest postal rates in 2012, with adifference of 10 euro cents compared to the European average of €0.46.
The increase for products covered by the Universal Postal Service amounts to a 2.97% rise.Taking into account all the products and services offered by Correos, the increase goes down to2.85%.
To update the tariffs, Correos has applied, for the first time, the procedure stipulated in thenew postal law that came into effect on 1 January 2011 implementing the total liberalisation of thepostal sector into the Spanish law established by the third Directive of the European Union.
