TNT Express opens new depot in west-central France to boost capacity

TNT has inaugurated a new depot in Poitiers, west-central France, to increase the number ofparcels handled in the region on a daily basis by nearly 30%.

The express operator has been present in the region for over 10 years operating in variousindustries, including the medical, textile, aviation, and agricultural sectors. It cooperates withthe most important local companies such as Radiante, Kramp or Eagle International whose activitiesrequire urgent transport, and serves more than 180 customers in the region.

TNT said it has also positioned itself as a quality service provider in the region securing theentire transport chain in a reliable way while monitoring the shipment flow through a precisetracking process. With the opening of the new depot, TNT expects to further improve its service interms of delivery and pickup while also being closer to customers.

The 1,472 sqm depot, which almost doubles the space of the previous 750 sqm facility, is locatedclose to major highways in Migné-Auxances, a commune in the Vienne department. It has the capacityto sort up to 5,000 parcels a day, which is one third more than at the previous site.

Moreover, the new facility will serve as a pilot project for an automated sorting machine whichdirects the parcels according to their destination or the service type chosen by the customer(delivery before 8am, 9am, on Saturday etc.). The first results are positive as this machineenables time savings and improves the working conditions of the 12 employees at the site. Inaddition, the site is equipped with a support system to lift the parcels effortlessly.
