TNT Express today unveiled plans to build a new road hub next year at Hanover Airport in northernGermany to serve as a hub for road connections to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.
The company signed an agreement to buy a plot of land at the airport last Friday. Thepurchase price was not disclosed. “With this agreement we have laid the foundation for furthergrowth,” said Thomas Kraus, head of TNT Express Germany.
The new hub will be located on a 60,000 sqm area and will include a 10,000 sqm sortingterminal. This is nearly 6,000 sqm more than the company’s present nearby site at Langenhagen where187 workers are employed.
Hanover is a geographically strategic location for TNT Express which has important roadconnections from there to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. These include direct internationallinehaul services to Copenhagen, Turku in Finland and Warsaw.
TNT Express Germany, with 31 depots, employs some 4,000 staff and uses about 1,800 vehiclesdaily.
