DHL today announced top management changes at its Global Forwarding and Freight businesses.
Thomas George, CEO at DHL Freight since April 2008, has been appointed to the new position ofChief Operating Officer (COO) DHL Global Forwarding. He will continue to be a member of the DHLGlobal Forwarding, Freight Management Board reporting directly to Roger Crook, CEO DHL GlobalForwarding, Freight.
As COO DHL Global Forwarding, Thomas George is responsible for the Global Air and OceanFreight operations including Value Added Services and all other operational functions. The role ofCOO is a new position within the organisation and has been established to drive the development ofDHL’s core products Air and Ocean Freight, to improve process harmonisation and to strengthen thenetwork business model within the organisation, DHL explained.
“I am very pleased that Thomas George accepted the challenge to take on this new role. As CEOfor DHL Freight, Thomas made tremendous improvements in our Road Freight business which led to theturnaround of DHL Freight,” commented Roger Crook.
At DHL Freight, George managed the introduction of a new operating model with centraliseddispatch and sourcing centres for FTL services. DHL’s European LTL network was further strengthenedwith an upgraded Euroconnect service, offering high quality services and covering now more than 50countries. George joined the company in 2004 as a Member of the Divisional Board of DHL ExpressEurope where he was initially responsible for Strategy and Product Management and later forMarketing, Sales and Customer Service.
The new head of DHL Freight will be Amadou Diallo, previously CEO of DHL Global Forwardingfor Africa and South Asia Pacific since June 2008 and a member of the DHL Global Forwarding,Freight Management Board. In his new role, Diallo will be responsible for DHL’s international Roadand Rail Freight Forwarding Business. DHL Freight is a European leader in overland freightforwarding offering high quality services covering more than 50 countries. Prior to his position inAsia, Diallo was Chief Financial Officer of the DHL Logistics division in the UK and ManagingDirector responsible for the integration of the supply chain management company Exel and DHLLogistics.
The Africa and South Asia Pacific region at Global Forwarding that Diallo managed will besplit and entrusted to Thomas Nieszner, so far CEO Europe/Central and Eastern Europe, and KevinLeung, CEO North Asia Pacific.
Kelvin Leung was promoted from Chief Operating Officer of DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacificto CEO of North Asia Pacific in 2008. He has over 20 years of logistics experience, having joinedDanzas AEI, now known as DHL Global Forwarding, in 2002 as Managing Director for Hong Kong, SouthChina and Macau. In 2004, he became Vice President of the South East Pacific Region for DHL DanzasAir & Ocean, helping the company become market leader and more than double its size.

Inaligning with our customers and operating as a single region, we will be even stronger, swifter andmore effective in capitalizing on the fast growth of intra-Asia trade that bring with it vastopportunities in the air, ocean and road freight sectors. Thomas Nieszner, who previously held the function of CEO Global Forwarding Europe/ Centraland Eastern Europe since 2006, will be responsible to drive further growth and development in theregions Europe, Middle East and Africa. From 1995 until today Thomas Nieszner held variouspositions within Deutsche Post DHL, including CEO Danzas Intercontinental Switzerland, CEO DanzasAEI Intercontinental, Asia Pacific and Executive Vice President Global Products, Marketing &Sales, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. Overall Nieszner has more than 16 years’ experience in thelogistics industry. In 2010, DHL aligned Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia Pacific into oneoperating region under the leadership of Diallo. DHL now expands the alignment and creates the newregion Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) under the leadership of Nieszner.
