GeoPost UK is in the top 3 per cent in the inaugural Energy Efficiency Performance League Tablefrom Britain’s Environment Agency, which ranks more than 2,000 organisations according to how they
manage their energy use under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).The parcel delivery company, which operates under DPD and Interlink Express in the UK, saidit is the highest ranked parcel carrier in the 2011 Performance League Table.
GeoPost UK was assessed with other national carriers, retailers, major supermarkets andhospitals according to what they have done to measure energy use and reduce carbon emissions.
The CRC scheme requires large organisations that use more than 6,000MWh electricity per yearto measure and report carbon emissions. They gain credits for installing smart meters and complyingwith Carbon Trust standards – or an equivalent accreditation scheme.
Mark Wilkes, Director of Technical Services for GeoPost UK, said: “We have a strong,proactive environmental ethos. We are committed to recycling and reducing waste and carbonemissions.
“We were the first in the industry to introduce a biodegradable bag; have invested in theindustry’s largest fleet of double-decker vehicles (which has saved 4.2 million miles a year); havereplaced 300 vehicles with energy-efficient versions; introduced waste compactors at our Hubs andoperate a fuel management system guaranteed to optimise fuel performance and thus cut carbonemissions.
“We scored 92.5 per cent in the Performance League Table and were ranked ahead of ourcompetitors. However, we see the score as one on which to build and improve for the EnvironmentAgency’s next report.”
Of the 2,106 organisations listed in the Environment Agency’s report, 22 were in joint firstplace with 100 per cent while 803 organisations scored zero. GeoPost UK scored 92.5 per cent.
The Environment Agency’s Director of Environment and Business Ed Mitchell said he wasencouraged to see that six out of 10 organisations taking part in the scheme have taken steps toimprove their energy management.
