Fuel surcharges for international air express shipments for November are showing an uneventrend, CEP-Research analysis shows.
In Europe, DHL reduced its surcharge to 16.5 per cent from 17 per cent this month, and FedExand UPS maintained their fuel surcharges at 17 per cent. TNT Express increased its Europeansurcharge to 20.5 per cent from 20 per cent while its separate UK surcharge went up from 13.5 percent to 14 per cent.
In the USA, FedEx and DHL reduced their surcharge to 14 per cent from 14.5 per cent while UPSmaintained its surcharge at 14 per cent from last month.
In Asia, in contrast, the DHL surcharge stayed at 23 per cent for November and UPS left itssurcharge at 21.5 per cent. TNT’s surcharge rose to 20 per cent from 19.5 per cent. However, FedExreduced its fuel surcharge to 16.5 per cent from 17 per cent.
The air express fuel surcharges for November reflect the oil price level two months ago. Thefour leading express carriers calculate their surcharges based on indices showing the previousmonth’s oil price level and announce them in advance for the following month. This results in atwo-month time lag between prices and the surcharge level.
After falling in September, oil prices have risen steadily since early October. Brent crudeoil was trading at nearly $112 a barrel today, although this was lower than earlier in themonth.
