DPD UK has launched a state-of-the-art mobile website enabling its growing customer base totrack their parcels way and monitor and re-arrange the delivery times from their smartphones.
The company claims it is the first parcel carrier in the UK to launch a mobile website servicewith these functions, observing that during the past 12 months, more than six million people in theUK accessed the internet from a mobile device for the first time. The impact of smartphones andmedia tablet adoption is expected to result in a declining internet access via PCs, the companypredicted.
Dwain McDonald, CEO of DPD UK, confirmed that more than 15% of the company’s customers alreadyaccess the website via their mobile phones and this number is increasing monthly. “And ourexperience monitors the latest findings from the Office of National Statistics, which shows anexplosion in mobile phone internet access – from 8.5 million UK users in 2009 to 17.6 million thisyear,” he said.
“As a business, it’s vital to respond to the changing face of customer contact. In today’s busy,mobile society, customers expect fast answers at any time and from anywhere. Our commitment tocustomers has been a catalyst in creating a service that combines convenience and innovation,”McDonald added.
He claimed DPD UK had established itself as an innovator through its Predict service, whichprovides customers with a one-hour delivery window for their parcel, and that the company aims tomaintain this position through another “cutting edge service” via its website.
