Hermes Germany has renewed its contract with Vodafone as its exclusive mobile provider foranother three years aiming to implement the latest scanning technology available on the market.
With the agreement, Hermes and Vodafone will continue their long-term partnership that haslasted for more than ten years. As part of the deal, all Hermes delivery drivers will be equippedwith 19,000 state-of-the-art hand scanners with an integrated Vodafone mobile phone card. Aninternet connection is provided via GPRS enabling Hermes customers to check in real time thecurrent status of their shipments.
Dr. Philip Nölling, Chief Financial Officer of Hermes Logistics Group, Germany, commented: “Twoaspects have particularly convinced us that Vodafone is the right partner for us in the future aswell: its wide range of services in various fields and its ability to adjust to our individualneeds.”
Jan Geldmacher, Managing Director of Corporate Business at Vodafone Germany, added: “We supportour customers so they can focus on their core business. With our global presence and global accountmanagement, we contribute to some extent to the unified expansion of the Hermes logistic network inEurope. For example, the international use of internet scanners is a joint strategic topic for thefuture.”
As part of their long-term partnership, the companies have agreed on further cooperation fields.For example, the Vodafone systems will be used at the five main Hermes hubs optimising processesand leading to higher system availability. In addition, the two parties are planning to establish amonitoring system for technical equipment operated through mobile technology.
Moreover, Vodafone will continue supporting Hermes to integrate its 18 new branches planned for2011 and to provide convergent fixed and mobile services at the new buildings. On top of that,cooperation activities are planned at more than 14,000 Hermes parcel shops in Germany.
