TNT Express scoops Smart Services Award for innovative ‘control tower’

TNT Express has been honoured for its innovative transport services with the 2011 Smart ServicesAward from Cisco, a leader in the development of Internet Protocol (IP)-based networking

technologies.

During the awards ceremony in Singapore, TNT was recognised for providing Cisco with real timevisibility of all its transportation flows across the Asia Pacific region through theimplementation of a regional “control tower” based in Beijing, China. A control tower bundlesinformation services used to manage and monitor a customer’s supply chain.

Michael Drake, Regional Managing Director, TNT Asia Pacific, said, “We feel honoured andencouraged that TNT Express is recognised by our major customers, like Cisco, for our innovation inproviding progressive services . Cisco has rapidly expanded its business in the Asia Pacific region in recent years with on-timedelivery and real time visibility of shipments becoming increasingly important for the successfulmanagement of its supply chain.

According to Cisco’s requirements, TNT established the control tower in Beijing with a dedicatedteam and customised IT systems in December 2010 to monitor Cisco’s international shipments acrossthe Asia-Pacific. The tower monitors the entire process until the delivery of shipments. As aresult, Cisco can calculate the real time status of its shipments. In addition, the control toweralso offers a proactive notification on import and export regulation changes to help Cisco avoidany unexpected service delays.

TNT has enabled proactive and personalised services to customers and used technologicalinnovation to transform the business,” said Karen McFadzen, Vice President of Cisco TechnicalServices Asia Pacific, Japan and Greater China.

TNT Express Greater China began developing its strong partnership with Cisco in 2004. TNTprovides Cisco with a wide range of services including domestic and international distribution, andwarehouse management.
